You can't say that those are the definite reasons, you can't prove that. It's possible that she always knew he was gay but didn't feel that it would be right to put that information in the first books. Just like we find out other information about Dumbledore slowly, throughout the books this too is revealed later. You're just picking an excuse that makes it seem as if Dumbledore shouldn't be gay because you don't like it. This is a bit long for the chatbox "/ how about a thread?

I love how the chat box turned into a debate forum :D I don't like the idea of him being gay because when I read the books I was under impression that he was heterosexual. Then all of a suden (around the 5/6 book) she comes out and says. "Oh, btw, in case you didn't know, Dumbledore's gay." The reason she waited so long was either because she thought that him being gay wouldn't be received well with the general audiance or because she wanted to support gay rightsor something. In which case she read through the book, picked the character which sounded as if he could be gay, and said "oh, and he's gay btw".

P.S. Dumbledore and Gridlewald, they had it ON.

Just one thing - you say you don't believe he's gay "just because the author says so," but the author created him so if Rowling says he's gay, then he is and there's nothing you can say to change that.

And yeah, why do you care. I'm really confused by the ability to care about Dumbledore's sexuality. The reason I'm reacting like this, is because you guys are acting like ther would be somehting *wrong* with him being gay

you've always been the person on the site who says "I don't like fanfiction, I think it's disrespectful to the writer, blah blah blah, a load of shite that is ignoring the actual purpose of fanfiction and suggesting that people should only write for commercial purposes and sounds very self important". THen you do a couple of things. One, you post fanfiction in the Inklings, callling it a "continuation" or something, but no, it's not fanfiction at all is it really nah. Except it is. Then you give this line because you don't like that one of the greatest father figures in Storyworld might be a bit of a bender. 'And I totally thought he and McGonagall had a thing going. He was straight when I knew him growing up, so I stand firmly by that, no matter what the author says after the fact'- girl, if I say "I reckoned Draco and Harry were having randy bum sex" does that make it true, naw. I can think, "that would have been interesting" and read Harry/draco randybumsexfic!... but it's fic and there's nothing wrong with that. But you, because you seem to morally disagree with thinking "I see you what you did theeerree JK but Ima roll with this instead"- instead *ignore* what JK did. And you say it's because 'she didn't put it in the books'- and yet you stand by Dumbledore and McGonagall that was certainly not in the books. Count their dialogue, compare that to a planned journey around the world with one guy, and like spending a whole summer with another. I know it means nothing if he was straight, but when we get back stroy it's like "Oh HAI GAY SEX".

Why do you care Shiaw Bing, what does it add to his character. You know one of the main things about being a teacher, it's said the less you disclose about personal life the better. It makes no difference to the teaching experiance, and in JK's case it makes no difference tothe books. Furthermore I'd say his homosexuality is *Heavily* implied for those that aren't blind. Gridlewald and Doge or w/e his name was. Until you find out this it's not as obvious, but no female friends are mentioned in his life stories but a lot of men.

Arguing about the sexuality of a fictional character which exists in a subjective medium? Sounds like a really productive way to spend the day. /snark. Bah...too much work. Too little time. PITY ME.

While he may not be straight, he certainly wasn't gay.

Thu Sep 02, 2010 3:52 am
How about we say that he had no sexual preference and be done with it? Since there is no evidence to the contrary I beleive we should leave it at that. Although I don't beleive he was gay just because the author said he was gay. I heard alot about how she just did that for the extra publicity.

Everything you guys are saying can be used against you. Your argument backfires on yourselves.

'He was straight when I knew him growing up' Based on what? You can't argue that there was no evidence for him being gay, and ignore the fact there was also no evidence for him being straight.

Thu Sep 02, 2010 3:28 am
Nooo, I agree with Shiaw_bing2000. There is no point of reference at all of him being gay. Not at all. And I totally thought he and McGonagall had a thing going. He was straight when I knew him growing up, so I stand firmly by that, no matter what the author says after the fact. If you want to make him gay, then make him gay in the actual books.

Let's settle on bi-sexual. Okay? (Although my face looked like this

when I read it.)

There isn't any reference on him being straight in the books either. Besides she had sold more than enough, she didn't need this for publicity.
- Kiki
Thu Sep 02, 2010 1:44 am
He's not actually gay, the author just said that so gay people would be more interested in buying her book. There is never any reference to him being gay in the book so I firmly stand on the principle that he is, in fact, straight.
