Poetry for The Unwritten Minds

Postby D-Butler » Tue Feb 24, 2015 12:28 am

Domovoi; poem inspired by Butler from the Artemis Fowl series, written/all rights reserved by Eoin Colfer

A marking on the skin
Takes away the heart
Tearing you away
From the family you love
Coming in their lives
Like a savior in the night
Keeping a close eye
On any possible threat

The second father
To three children
He will never conceive
However, they are his forever

No one knows your simplest actions
Tucking the youngest in at night
Playfully fighting with middle child
Comforting the hire when he feels alone

You are their Domovoi
A guardian of the night
Maintaining peace and tranquility
Thank you, dear, Domovoi

__________

Holly; eighteen-lined couplet inspired by Holly from the Artemis Fowl series, written/all rights reserved by Eoin Colfer

As short as they come
Mentally higher ranking than all

More fiery than a goblin
Dashing in the line of fire

Flying over seas
Still scrapping her knees

She is Holly Short
Daughter of Coral

Student of Vinyaya
Teacher of all

Beaten, bruised, pushed around
Growing stronger

Dying slowly
Being born under the moon

She may be short
But she’s on top of the world

Under the ground
Where no one can find her

Ooh, great poems! I especially like the Holly one.
I said you were smart, Mud Boy. I was wrong; are exceptional.—Qwan
Which do you think seems more suspicious? An alien-looking craft hovering in the yard of a country home, or a floating doorway with a centaur standing in it?—Domovoi Butler
We can only change the future, not the past or present.—Artemis Fowl II
I'm trying to care, Artemis. But I thought it was all supposed to be over when the fat lady sings. Well, she's singing, but it doesn't appear to be over.—Holly Short

Dying slowly
Being born under the moon
What do you mean by dying slowly?

Also, I loved the Holly poem as a whole. The ending was well done, as was the rhythm of the piece. Excellent job.

The Butler poem was amazing as well, and you deserve a gold star for creative vocabulary. However, I think you may want to find an alternative for short in the future poems. Perhaps try petite?
I'm fine, seeing as you asked.-Foaly
Gnommish… Gnommish… What blasted translation system doesn’t have Gnommish?
