Urban Exploration

Postby Arty1995 » Sat Jul 30, 2011 3:27 am

What is Urban Exploration?

If you didn't already know, Urban Exploration, or Urbex is the act of going somewhere (usually abandoned) you almost definitely shouldn't be, for pure enjoyment. Most explorers take cameras with them and take photographs of their experiences and post them online for others to see.

The Urbex motto is, "Take pictures, leave footprints." In other words, don't graffiti or do anything that will show evidence that you were there other than footprints.

Why do it?

Personally, I do it for pure enjoyment (Dispite what I wrote above) and for really nice pictures to take. I want adventure and this is a good start.

What should I take if I do some Urbex?

x2 water bottles
x1 camera
x1 mobile phone
Some warm clothes if you are planning to stay after dark. (Wearing of course)
Good leather gloves.
x1 torch with extra batteries

[u]I'm all set. Lets rock!{/u]

Woah now, sport. There are a LOT of risks doing urbex. Risks include falling debris, collapsing floors, deep water, asbestos, electrocution, needles, impalement, falling from great heights and more. If you want to stay safe from those things you should take precausions. Learn the history of the place you are going to and find out why it was abandonded. Once you're in, what happens is all up to you.

Edit:

My personal urbex: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/111168 ... ex-30-7-11

I left to get my friends but they all got cold feet at the last minute. I went to another friend and he said no.

So I tried going by myself and I do not have $20 to pull out of my bank account for bus fees.

My mother won't take me because:
1. She's too busy.
2. It's dangerous alone.

I was so hyped about going to a new place and exploring; going on an adventure. And now my dream is crushed because friends couldn't keep their word, I didn't have the money and my mother doesn't believe I can handle myself.

I swear...I am about to burst into tears. My first chance to go and do something awesome with my life and I get pushed back.

Don't blink.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more of a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey.... Stuff."

I have a lot of fandoms.
Spoiler:
Doctor Who, Artemis Fowl, Harry Potter, Elementary, Torchwood, Starkid, and Homestuck are some of them.

I'm loosing it. I lost it. Maddie ate it.

:O I never realized it, but I urbexed (is that the proper term?) a couple of times when I was younger. My dad and I checked out an abandoned house, and an owl flew right over our heads! It was so cool - but I later realized that what we were doing definitely wasn't safe (or legal, probably). (That was actually one of the main reasons why my mom and dad got divorced - him being an irresponsible adult and all.)
So, urbexing is fun and all, but I won't do it again in a hurry!
