yes but it might take a minimum of a couple of months before we get that set up. We also have yet to get the forum updates up and running. I think it would be a good idea to get rid of the problems and updates we have planned right now at the current time done first and then think on future updates.

Perhaps we could make a forum dedicated to future updates and cross out any updates that have been taken care of. Just a thought.

I bet just to make everything easier someone could set up a bit of code to be automatically PMed to the new user.

Do you know what a pain that would be? Maybe if you can figure out how to do it and tell Matt/TC then they could use it put I doubt with all the stuff they are both tied up in they will be able to do it any time soon.

they did it with the inklings and VIP forum. Wouldn't It basically be the same thing only on a larger scale?

Not really. For the Inklings, you have to have a certain number of posts, after which, an admin manually adds the user to the Inklings group, upon their personal request. For the VIP, they are chosen specifically for whatever achievement they have done, and once again, are manually added to the usergroup. This is different; lethe meant having to post in a specific thread after reading the rules, as shown in the example forum she posted. Otherwise, the user wouldn't be able to post anywhere in the forum, possibly guaranteeing that they at least glance at the rules. It's not really similar to either the Inklings or the VIP Forum.

could you have it to were all the other boards would appear locked until they posted in the rules section stateing they had the read the rules. Plus have a PM sent to them automatically as soon as they sign up informing them that they must read the rules and state that they had read them by means of a post before they could have full access to the site?.

Could you learn PHP and figure out how to set it up yourself? Too do the locking part you would have to be put into a "new user(or whatever you want to call it)" user group, then manually switch to "registered user(or whatever you want)" user group. And the PM thing would probably not be as hard but still it would take some time..

Code: Select all

$auth->acl($user->data);
$user->setup('viewforum');
display_forums('', $config['load_moderators']);
// Set some stats, get posts count from forums data if we... hum... retrieve all forums data
$total_posts = $config['num_posts'];
$total_topics = $config['num_topics'];
$total_users = $config['num_users'];
$newest_user = $config['newest_username'];
$newest_uid = $config['newest_user_id'];
$l_total_user_s = ($total_users == 0) ? 'TOTAL_USERS_ZERO' : 'TOTAL_USERS_OTHER';
$l_total_post_s = ($total_posts == 0) ? 'TOTAL_POSTS_ZERO' : 'TOTAL_POSTS_OTHER';
$l_total_topic_s = ($total_topics == 0)
^just a small bit of code, from one phpBB file, do you have any idea where to fit a bit of code in? Both Matt and TC have jobs, do you think they have time to try to figure out how to make an automatic PM and where to put it?

hmmm true. Could we as members perhaps send the new members a message manually through the PM system. You know as soon as they join we could send them a message. I'de be glad to do it but someone would have to pm me a list of the new members or a page were I could access it myself. We could make it a requirement to post in the rules section ensuring they read it and we could tell if and when they posted their by looking at recent posts on the profile. IF they don't post their then we will asume that they didn't read the rules and give them a warning of a temporary ban or being left out of the other forums.

We could have a group of people called the welcoming committee or some such thing like that.

Completely off-topic, but perhaps an addition to the rules that tells people to NOT rely on wikipedia (or IMDB) for anything, especially AF movie 'facts'.

No you have to ask a mod to do it for you, the mods have the blue names and admins have maroon ones.

You actually can not shorten words, but you can occasionally use acronyms such as lol, rofl and stuff
Cookies and milk next to the stove. Be sure to stay out of trouble and wash your face before bed! :)
