Beijing Olympics

Postby Rochenut » Sat Aug 09, 2008 8:52 am

Omg did anyone else cry randomly while watching the Olympics?

What are your favourite events? I'm really looking forward to anything to do with gymnastics, badminton, swimming and water polo. I love watching the Olympics so much, as to why...sometimes the reasons are uhm, superficial. But so many gorgeous bodies *drool*

No, but the ceremony was so shiny it made my eyes water. :shiny:

I'm moderately curious about the swimming events, and the shooting events. And gymnastics is always good to watch.

I read a comment on a blog that suggested a striptease from the royal people.

That's heinous omg.

Well, to be honest, this is the first Olympics I've ever *really* paid attention to Athens I just watched randomly because it was a busy year and during Sydney and Atlanta I was too young to appreciate the wowness.

Yeah, same. I actually watched the opening ceremony. For Athens I'd just flip in randomly to catch some events. Sydney I saw, but I was pretty young then. (I'm so not counting the winter Olympics. :P)

I dunno about favourite events. I'll catch whatever's on whenever I feel like.

Opening ceremony was wow. And yeah, I'm wondering how London's going to top it. China has the distinct advantages with money, manpower, urge to show off, and an "exotic" history. (Not that London doesn't have history.)

Oh, before anybody asks who I'm cheering for, being Chinese Canadian... I'll have to say Canada. I grew up here, eh? I'm also a banana - yellow outside, white inside.

No offence, but what culture does London have to offer? :P

China was showing off an ancient culture.

Beijing has been so far the only Olympics I paid attention to. Except for Salt Lake City. I lived there in 2002 8) . I was only 8 then, though. Who here has been to an opening or closing ceremony? The fireworks get better every Games. SLC had incredible fireworks, but Beijing topped it 5 to 1. And the torch lighting thing in Beijing with the guy running the wall? That was cool.

Other than bad traffic and everything being over priced? I have no idea. :P

The 2012 Olympic logo is already hated by lots of people, i don't like it.

At least the equestrian, might be near enough to get to from where i live. =D

Yeah, but Beijing had an amazing opening ceremony. I'm just pessimistic, but i kept expecting things to go wrong. =P

I'm looking forward to the equestrian, the gymnastics are always good though.
Sometimes to see the way forward we must take a step back and look around.

Not much, but the Olympic Committee will take any excuse to host it in a major city. But, yes, you're right. London has no culture at all. Just the kind of general "western world medley" kind of thing.

London culture? CHAUCER.

Gosh, the gymnastics were so nerve wracking to watch. There's a documentary of the gymnastics culture in China and these very young kids go through a hell lot of pain to get where they are. I was so scared when those two Chinese girls fell goddamn.

I'm rooting for my country obvs, but for the events where it's not in it (like gymnastics) it's China all the way. I've been ~brainwashed~

I'm also a banana - yellow outside, white inside.

I'm ashamed to admit it took me awhile to get this.

I haven't been able to see much of the Olympics, unfortunately. I was at a barbecue during the opening ceremony, and my great aunt had it on so I saw a bit, but my cousin who I haven't seen in literally five years was over as well. She comes by less often than the Olympics so she had my priority. What I did see was amazing, though. I really liked the drummers, being a band geek. And I've done mass bands before. Those practices must have been really intense. You don't get that precise from practicing at home and then coming together for one rehearsal. They were all Chinese men. Young men. With the same haircut, I think. I think I saw some women later on, though. Pretty brilliant, from what I saw. I want to see reruns for what I missed. And I like seeing all the countries come out in different outfits.

My favorite sport to watch is gymnastics, fo sho. But I like to watch pretty much everything. During the winter Olympics I like figure skating. Today I caught a bit of the swimming before work. Michael Phelps did good from what I saw. He's sexy and he's good. And I can cheer for him because he's team USA. Saw some of the girl swimming, but of course they start out with the 100 fly and who likes that? The starts are amazing-- they don't swimming until halfway through the length.

Hope to see more, but I am too busy!

Oh man, that woman in one of the swimming events yesterday was sooo ugly she almost burnt my eyeballs out...

Was watching China vs USA basketball earlier. Supporting China, of course. (I think the game's still going right now.)

The Chinese had amazing three-point shots, but the Americans had the better teamwork and overall skill.

After a while, it got painful, so I stopped watching. :(
