Slumdog Millionaire

Postby Ihdreniel » Sun Jan 18, 2009 4:57 am

I can't be the only one here who saw it, can I?

Anywayyyy, I thought it was brill; much better than I had expected. The acting was excellent, as was the music (and the story of course, pffft). I loved everybody dancing at the end, during the credits. XD

Seriously? What a waste that would have been. :( I hope it's going to be nominated for some Oscars (the noms are probably out already, but I can't be bothered to look it up *fails*).

Yeah, I know. Thank God it got into theatres!!

As for the awards, Slumdog sweeped at the Academy Awards, getting Best Picture, I think maybe Best Actor, and a couple other biggies. I wonder if it'll do the same at the Oscars.

Spoiler:
I totally thought he wasn't going to get the million dollar question right--I thought it was D'artagnian. And I was like oh no no no no..... But it's probably not going to matter, because he knows where she is now... But then he won and like, half the people in the theatre cheered, including me.

The Academy Awards are the Oscars. I think you mean the Golden Globes.

I want to see this movie some time. *nods*

I loved this film. And so does everyone else as the BAFTAs have shown :D
I especially liked little Jamal, Salim and others running through the shanties and the sunlight shining IT'S SO PRETTY. Also the soundtrack is amazing.

I'm going to see it tomorrow, so I'll report back with my important opinions on it xD When I heard about it at first, I didn't particularly feel an urge to see it; not my kind of thing. But I heard all the hype about it and apparantly it's genuinely good, so I guess I'll give it a try and make up my own mind xD

Hmm, I don't really know "/ Like, I can appreciate that it was a good movie and I'm glad I saw it once, but I don't think I'd see it again. It's just not my kind of movie, and I think it is slightly overrated. It was a good movie, but not billions of oscar nominations kind of good.

I still haven't seen it. I just sit at home watching movies I want to see go past Delhi 6! *cries*. But this I really wanted to see in the theater because the cinematography, the music and their combo seems great and maybe could be properly appreciated only there? Either way, I do think I won't like it that much, and of course I'll see it from an overtly critical eye. :P

I am not just jumping on the bandwagon when I say it was amazing, it was just my kind of film. Meledramatic at points but just so... I dunno...

I've heard so many people say it's overrated, and that would normally be ME. It's strange for there to be a film that I loved as much as this.

and the music was amazing, when Paper Planes came on I was nearly singing along :P

Edit because i found out the name of the song I liked the most: O saya was easily the best song in the film

I just felt a little uncomfortable about the slum setting, a little exploitative if you will. I feel this a lot with movies that feature the developing world.

O saya is my favourite too!! The Paper Planes remix is so cool.

I thought the slum setting was... done tastefully. It was such a colourful film- it didn't patronise the people who lived there at all. Wheras many people wouldhave tried to portray it as a hell-hole, this film said, yes it's a horrible place BUT people live there, and they aren't all junkies and etc like we'd expect in slums remotely like that where I live, and there is culture there. Is it better to ignore the slums altogether because they make you uncomfortable? It brought attention to the conditions some people live in in a tactful way.
