The Hunger Games Movie

Postby Merv Simestra » Sun Mar 25, 2012 1:53 am

So, since the movie came out Friday morning (at midnight) and there seem to be quite a few Hunger Games fans here, I thought this thread would be appropriate. :) So, what did you think of the movie?

EDIT: (Whoops, I didn't give my opinion yet.)
I went to see the movie Friday night with a friend of mine, and we both thought the movie was very good. It handled the violence pretty well, and it included almost everything that happened in the book. The only thing my friend and I didn't like was that
Spoiler:
they didn't even mention Madge. She's a pretty important character and I was a little upset to see she wasn't in the movie. And, of course, I cried when Rue died. I really wished I had brought tissues. :(

Aaaah I can't believe this hasn't gotten replies! I adored the movie. I'm a fan of the books, but (as I've been telling people over and over again...), I actually thought the movie was a better movie than the books were books, if that makes sense. Everything in it-- from the writing to the acting to the direction to the camerawork to the music-- came together so well, and there were very few things that I thought could have been done better. I really enjoyed the books, but the film had much more of an impact on me. I'm really disappointed that Gary Ross won't be directing Catching Fire.

Well, hey, as long as there's a reply. :)

I think the book and movie were equal. They both had their strong points and a few negative ones, but not enough for one to out-do the other.

I really hope they do just as well with Catching Fire as they did with The Hunger Games, considering how important everything in that book is to Mockingjay's plot. And Mockingjay is a really important book in the series.

The movie was brilliant, the only qualm I had with it was the shaky camera. I heard it made some people nauseous, so maybe it's a good thing that they're hiring a different director. Maybe it will be easier to figure out what's going on during the action scenes.

Yessss, this. I hope they keep it accessible to people who haven't read the books, too.

I personally liked the shaky cam in the action scenes because I felt it did a lot to add to the atmosphere of confusion and panic (at the bloodbath at the Cornucopia, especially), but I'm surprised it didn't make me sick too. I'm usually prone to that sort of thing.

I have to agree with Ihdreniel. I was very glad of the shaky camera because I can get a little queasy at the sight of lots of blood. Plus, I believe anyone could do without seeing all that bloodshed. And the shaky camera added to the panic of the larger killings (like with the wasps or the initial Cornucopia scene).
