I bet the Japanese say the same about America where I live, our songs like "Wiggle", and other nonsense we've created, such as every other Katy Perry and Lady Gaga music video.

All you have to do is deliberately avoid the absolutely ridiculous bands, such as Babymetal, (Which should not exist an the same universe as me. I hate it.) and you'll find that J-pop is really not that different than the pop of any other country, except for some cultural influences.

But you're from France, as I remember. I recall a French TV show commentator by the name of Tania openly admitting disdain for the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku, while broadcasting a live performance that was supposedly by her, but was actually by another Vocaloid by the name of Luka, who looks and sounds nothing like her. She then compared her most popular song at the time to a set of french ringtones, called it horrific, and proceeded to openly make fun of her. This is not the only time I've seen the French media do this to Japanese influences. I dislike the French media. I'd advise you to ignore popular influence and keep an open mind when it comes to Japanese music.

I dislike the medias too, but not only the French ones. Except for a very, very few shows, I don't watch TV, so I don't know who the presentator you're talking about ; but according to your description, I'm pretty sure it wasn't an important information channel broadcasting important international news ; just a satirical show like many others in many other countries - Saturday Night Live for example. Making fun of something else is very common, in life and in the medias, and the French media isn't the first and only one to do so. That being said, I can understand what you say ; I don't like it either when something I like is being turned ridiculous by someone, but that's not a reason to say you totally dislike the media for that and that it's telling bullshit all the time. The French doesn't only make fun of Japan, we also make fun of ourselves. There are a lot of shows where our government takes quite a beating. And you can't tell me that in American medias, when it comes to France, it's not very often turning béret and baguette ^^ Which is I repeat absolutely normal. Clichés are a part of life and basic humor - that doesn't mean it's not stupid, but I think it's harmless. Well, depends of the clichés, of course. Some are dangerous. But clichés on music (what do you know about French music for example, besides Georges Brassens, Claude François and Johnny Hallyday ?) and stuff like that are mostly harmless. Annoying, but not a big deal. All you have to do is ignore it and listen to what you like.

In any case, you can be sure that it's not because it's ''the popular influence'' (actually, all of my friends are mangas and J-Pop fans, so I'm more like the outsider here ^^) that I don't like J-Pop, it's really a matter of personal tastes. I dislike as much Katy Perry and Daft Punk as I do for Miku Hatsune and Kirary Pamyu Pamyu. I'm a rocker and classical soul, not a pop or electro one. Bad luck for J-Pop, it manages to cumulate the two. In your comment you seemed to have understood that I hated all Japanese music, and that's absolutely not true. Joe Hisaishi is one of my favourite modern composer, and there are a lot of soundtracks from Japanese movies that I love - like Ryuchi Sakamoto's compositions for Furyo, which is truly a masterpiece (plus there's David Bowie in it *O*). Unfortunately, though I admire this country and culture a lot, I'm not very aware of everything about its history and all, and I'm only asking to learn more. So if there are some J-Pop songs you like, I'd be glad to discover it - I can't promise I'll like them, but I'll try ^^

I didn't say you disliked all Japanese music, that would be almost impossible.

It wasn't important news, true. But if it was satire than I wouldn't be mad about it. It wasn't satire. If Tania Bruna Rosso did her research beforehand and didn't just blindly hate on the Japanese culture and stereotype them, (She compared Miku to Godzilla...) than I would also be fine with it. Our media in America does screws up a lot of research too, and I get mad at that too. (Really, Fox News? Mass Effect is a pornography sim?) It's mainly that I hate news outlets in general for every country. European news though... Did you know that when Rule of Rose was released, it led to a pedophilia investigation in Poland? Stupid people

In any case, you can be sure that it's not because it's ''the popular influence'' (actually, all of my friends are mangas and J-Pop fans, so I'm more like the outsider here ^^) that I don't like J-Pop, it's really a matter of personal tastes. Aww... I like Daft Punk. Oh, well.

I'm a rocker and classical soul, not a pop or electro one. Bad luck for J-Pop, it manages to cumulate the two.

Axing orphans, though... Harsh.

As I said, nearly impossible. Japanese influence is everywhere.

Unfortunately, though I admire this country and culture a lot, I'm not very aware of everything about its history and all, and I'm only asking to learn more. So if there are some J-Pop songs you like, I'd be glad to discover it - I can't promise I'll like them, but I'll try ^^

I'm on a strike from the genre at the moment until Korea and Japan come out of their somehow staggeringly sexist "Girl Band" phase. After that, perhaps I'll tell you a few. The culture of the country and how it came to be is fascinating, however. I love the country, though my own nationalist pride makes me love my own more.

Spoiler:
They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy
They can say, they can say I've lost my mind
I don't care, I don't care, so call me crazy
We can live in a world that we design

'Cause every night I lie in bed
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it's gonna take
Oh, a million dreams for the world we're gonna make

Re-listening to the official AF songs (Call Me Artemis Fowl and Complex:Atlantis) because I realize I never listened to them fully. Think these are pretty good rock songs, but... really doesn't match the character. Someone should try an instrumental remix with classical instruments, that would be freakin great.
... I'm missing my cello right now. So much.

All the pieces of ABRSM Grade 1 piano.

If you remember/check the "Lie to Me" thread in the Arcade, I said I didn't play piano, but I just took it up. I may be 14 but I have to start somewhere... :lick: So, Matt, you were kind of right, I do play the piano. And... I have to progress pretty d'arviting fast if I'm going to get anywhere, anytime soon.

I used to play piano... but my piano teacher wasn't very nice so I quit, much to my parent's disappointment. I liked playing it when I could.

Right now I'm listening to Chandelier by SIA.

Awh. Pity. Why didn't you just change to a different teacher instead?

I assure you, that was the first thing I tried to do. Turns out, the one I currently had was the only one.

Song: Sugar by Maroon 5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09R8_2nJtjg

Song: Drops by Jupiter by Train. I freakin' love it, it's like the only sad song I like. It brings back memories.
