The idea of mindlessness terrifies me, and I'm basically religious to convince myself that I'll never nonexist (hah, I think I just coined the word :D)

In the same way, people like to imagine that there is a heaven and a hell, and criminals go to hell after they die as a way of retribution. It's more comforting than just knowing that they walk free after a period in jail, or no period in jail, while others suffer because of their actions.

Yipe, I just realized how dreadfully moralizing I sounded in my last post... please ignore it, I guess I'm technically just a skeptic.

Anyway, try imagining that you've been wiped off the face of the planet. Nothing exists to prove that your mind once existed, except for your dead body and maybe some copies of that YA book you mentioned you wanted to write. But eventually, those will disappear as well.

So, how long do you imagine being conscious in your deaf, blind afterlife? :p

...no, I don't. That's a thought I might as well get accostumed to. =)

Yes, but there'd still be a me watching the me-less world, wouldn't there? Regardless of how long my mind's existence were, I would never have any experience of a world without me, and therefore, my mind would automatically exist for eternity.

I thought it sounded quite logical. You need a heaven, so you have one.
Also, I don't think it was particularly moralising.

Thanks, Multiverse :D I just didn't like my tone of voice (can you have one of those on the internet?), and I figured I'd sound like I was... I don't know, just sort of virtually yelling "I'm Christian!" and following it with a boring "because..."

I'm CHRISTIAN because it's the religion I know most about right now and it makes me happy.

Same here. I think I would become manic depressive if I believed I was would just cease to exist.

However, if you cease to exist, you wouldn't be aware of not existing, so it might not be so bad.

Hay just signed up. I honestly don't believe in heaven or hell or reincarnation for that matter. It feels comforting to have a god when your sad or upset, but I think he doesn't exist. I think death is when people kill themselves off and maybe the cosmos will give humanity a second chance to make it right. Thats just me talking though.

No problem, my pleasure. ^_^
The yelling really is nowhere near as interesting as the 'Because', so that's what I generally try to listen to. =)

Hi. =)
So what you're saying is that all deaths are suicides, or...? I think I'm intrigued by your idea, but I'm nowhere near understanding it from this statement. Would you mind explaining it a bit more elaborately? =)

I'm Christian, but since I read a book about philosophy (yes, I know, nerd and all that) I guess I believe in recarnation into another human or form of life. So I think you either go to heaven, or you get reborn.

I'm also a Christian, so I believe that after death you go to either heaven or hell. I don't believe in reincarnation. If the Bible doesn't mention it as what happens after death, then it's most likely, most definitely not going to happen. That is my belief without going into too many details.
