Guys, I'm sure you're all quite curious as to what this super, mega, amazing, exciting news that we have for you is... and here it is.

In a nutshell, most of you'll know that Douglas Adams, author of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books unfortunately passed away before he could write a sixth and final book... it has been many years, but now Eoin Colfer has been asked to do it.

But that's enough from me, I'll let Eoin Colfer explain it himself! Stay tuned later on tonight, because we'll also have Simon Jones, the voice of Arthur Dent, talking about this book too!

They have their opinions and we have ours. Starting a debate there (or here) with them won't do us any good. We certainly don't want a cross-forum flame war.

I haven't actually read the books, but I think we can count on Eoin to keep to the original story as best he can, seeing as he was a fan himself.

Responses like this happened all the time. Look at what the sequel of "Peter Pan" had to cope with, people kept accusing the author of ruining the original book because she made it "darker."

I've only read the first hitchhiker book. Better start catching up on the rest...

I'm actually with HGTG-people on this. Mostly Harmless had a proper-ish end, there is no need for HGTG6... Besides, I doubt the HGTG-fans will give much (if any) canonical value to the upcoming book. At least I won't, no matter who writes it. It's just not the same.

Actually, even Adams himself was a little displeased with Mostly Harmless. Yeah, it ended things, but it was pretty bleak and Adams was planning on writing a sixth book...

Let's hope Colfer can pull it off. We won't know how it'll turn out until we read it. But there are a few things we know.

1) It will be different - Colfer and Adams are different people, therefore they have different thoughts/ideas/styles.
2) People will still find reason to criticize it, no matter the quality. Like nindra said, even if it's exactly in Adams's style, it's just not the same.

I can see what you guys mean, but it'll be interesting to say the least, and if it has been allowed by Adams' family it will be somewhat credible.

I can't wait to read it, to be honest. I used to be a big fan of 'The Day of the Triffids,' and then I found out some guy wrote a sequel, and it was still a pretty good book...
