so, I'm in the middle of reading the supernaturalitst, and I noticed Colfer uses the same names rather often in different books. Myshi coorporation in the supernaturalist- Myshi the tech-guy in the wish list. Stephan Bashkir in the supernaturalist- Artemis's cover name as a chess genius [that was the name, wasn't it?] and there was somthing else i dont remember now... either way- what up? he couldn't think of new names? is he trying to say somthing? anybody got an idea?

I believe he's somehow connecting all the books together. Or at least all his recent ones for kids and teens. :) Either that or he just likes those names so he keeps using them.

Not besides the ones you mentioned. I haven't read all his books yet so I don't know of any others.

:) I guess he must just like those names.... I name nearly all of my OCs or original novel characters Athena until I find something that suits them better!

There's a certain "Art Fowler" in Half Moon Investigations that is mentioned by a police officer.
I even counted Eoin used about 5 times the word "fairy" in Airman. :lick:
I think it's sweet for Eoin to reuse the names once in a while, so you get a littler excitement of re-acquaintance reading his other books.

I haven't read Airman or the Supernaturalist yet, but I think EC put these names to have the readers feel "at home" with his novels. Some people may like to have their books, movies, or any work somehow connect with one another.I know that when I write my books, I often have a hard time choosing names, so I always pick names that are very similar to the ones I have or just go with the exact names. Maybe Eoin does that with his novels, it can be hard to find names when you already like some already. Another reason that can be the case is that the names can be "Easter Eggs". Disney often likes to put Easter Eggs in their movies or even the ride themselves with their "Hidden Mickeys"; Monsters Inc. has Nemo in their movie while Finding Nemo has the Pizza Planet truck from Toy Story. So it can be that Eoin wanted to put these names in his novels as Easter Eggs. It could be any of these reasons or a combination.

I'm pretty sure that they're in there so that people who've read his other books will go "Hey, I know that!". I like it when authors do things like that.

Or maybe he just likes those names, I don't know.

I agree with the "Easter egg" theory. Eoin has access to thousands of names. It would be very simple to look up a list of possible baby names and scroll through until he finds one he likes. I think he is purposely connecting the books, especially because he has a fan base of readers who tend to read all of his books.

Honestly? I think he just reuses the names becuase he likes the names. LOL. Though, I might like to see some kind of alternate universe/crossover/alternate history tie-in between the Supernaturalist and Artemis.

though, first, I would like a Supernaturaiist sequel. :p

Ooo yes, I like the Easter Egg theoty, but I think it is very likely that he likes those names a lot too. :) But yes, easter eggs. I rememeber when I read Half Moon Investigations.... 4/5 years ago? Man thats a long time.. But anyways I remember squealing when I saw Art Fowler when reading it. It was a great time and just... So many crossover opportunities.

YES A SUPERNATURALIST SEQUEL WOULD BE SO AMAZING!!!!!
