How will the book read?

Postby Griffar » Wed Apr 15, 2009 11:37 am

Just wandering, how is the book going to read. Will it be like the others in the series or what?

EC has said that he will write the book in his style and he will not pretend to be Adams.

But what do I think? Well, I think it will be noticeable another author wrote it, but I also think it will differ from the other EC books. Sure, every EC book has different feelings to them, but I think you would be easily able to tell And Another Thing from the rest of the EC books. It would be EC style but with a noticeable DNA style to it also. And Another Thing is set in Hitchhikerverse, created by DNA, so it is obviously influenced a lot by DNA's writing. So even if EC do it his own way, he would still have to adapt a little DNA style.

I can't realy say how it reads compared to the originals; I've never read them before. I just got a copy today, and it deffently shows a side of Colfer none of his other books have. So yeah, its a half-half.

I'm personally still on So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish, but I got a copy recently and read the prologue. I immediately saw some of that class A DA humor. You wanna know my exact thoughts? What the hell?! Was Eoin possessed by Douglas Adams or something while he was writing? This looks more like a DA/EC crossover then pure EC! yes i actually doubted Eoin! But seriously people, it looks more like DA then EC to me. But hey, that's just me.

:D That's what I was thinking; wow, never even thought Colfer might use THAT in one of his books. More Adams then Colfer, but Colfer couldn't refrain from one or two fan referances ever so slight to AF. I spotted them :D

"Edwin, what's the plural for Ox?"
"Oxen. The farmer used his oxen."
"Brian,"
"What?"
"What's the plural for box?"
"Boxen! I bought two boxen of doughnuts."

His best work, in my opinion. I thought it read very well indeed and stuck loyally to the previous books without trying too hard to do so. The story had the same sort of unravelling lunacy to it whilst still managing to get around to a sort of vague conclusion and the characters, sideplots and descriptions all fit the Adams mould.

I'm about to start the Hitch hiker's guide to the galaxy. The language is supposed to be hilarious. EC don't let me down!

I really need to get round to it actually. Funnily enough, both my parents have told me that they found it hideously boring.
