Announcement: March's Book! (My Family and Other Animals)

Postby Voldy » Sun Mar 04, 2007 1:07 am

Book Club Announcement: March's book!

The book we'll be reading in March is My Family and Other Animals, by Gerald Durrell – available at Amazon.com, most local bookstores, and most libraries as well.

You can post in this thread to let everyone know when you've got a copy of the book, or to let us know how far you are in the book. Also feel free to make general comments on the quality of he book, but remember, no spoilers, please – those go in the discussion thread.

Plot Summary, courtesy of Amazon
"When the unconventional Durrell family can no longer endure the damp, gray English climate, they do what any sensible family would do: sell their house and relocate to the sunny Greek isle of Corfu. My Family and Other Animals was intended to embrace the natural history of the island but ended up as a delightful account of Durrell’s family’s experiences, from the many eccentric hangers-on to the ceaseless procession of puppies, toads, scorpions, geckoes, ladybugs, glowworms, octopuses, bats, and butterflies into their home."

Gah! I was so excited about learning the next book...

I did a search through the library system. There are only three copies in the whole system. One of them is abridged or something. One of them is an audiobook, which I can't sign out because I'm not blind, and the other is in large print for visually impaired readers.

Gah.

and I'm too cheap to actually buy it

I didn't think it'd actually get selected! Shocked

I mean, yay! I really hope people like it, though. But it is a fun read for sure! Smile

I just checked the library's catalogue and they don't have it! They have these other books by Durrell but not the one we're reading.

Jangra, I assume that since you've created the discussion thread, we'll be going with this book?

I checked my library, it has several copies... It's really not that uncommon a book. Confused I don't know why so many libraries wouldn't have it...
