I wouldn't want them to make him gay, just not make him straight either, if you know what I mean? Cause I think a lot of people wonder wether or not he is gay. I'm actually not sure myself, it might just be that he is so focused on his work like you say, but at the same time he is very close to Watson. I know that Watson isn't gay of course, I've read the series, but that doesn't mean that Holmes can't be. And I think he handles Watson getting married poorly. I don't know on what ground I say that, it just seemed that way to me. :-) And remember that Doyle lived in a time where being gay wasn't accepted, so maybe he felt he had to make that short story so people wouldn't think he was gay?
