The Library, Friend or Foe

Postby Ry 2009 GuY » Tue Apr 14, 2009 2:09 am

Personally, I like the library. It's a place to take a moment and enjoy one of those rare times when you feel completely relaxed. Though I could do without the librarian. She is always a pain. How about you? What do you think?

No it isn't a trick question. HE basically said, he loves the library, but the librarien is a pain. Anyway

I like the library, it is really big and modern so you don't tend to meet the librariens. The only down side is they have a kids section were the kids run around and scream a lot.

Library, Definatly friend. Meybe you should create a poll for this so it is easy to see the stats.

Hey!
>:(

I wanted to be a librarian. Still kind of do.
You be nice to librarians.
And maybe if you would just SHUT UP they wouldn't be mean to you.
I've never met a mean librarian in my life.

...how on earth could the library be a foe?

I kinda see a decline in new library buildings in the future though, mostly because of the rapidly developing technology involved with the Internet.

But for now, the library's a great place to study.

I hate librarians, they're horrid.

Now listen, I'm well behaved in the library. I do my work in the college library, I read silently, my phone is always on silent. At my old school, I went in to ask if they had any old newspapers or magazines stored away that the Art department could use. I waited until she'd finished talking to whoever she was talking to, then asked her and she was like "can't you see I'm in the middle of something, go find them yourself." So I go find them, go to take them out and she goes "what are you doing? do you think you're stupid? you can't take them out of the library," and snatched them off me before shooing me out.
Ruuuude.

The ones at college are a pain, always telling us to hush even though we're in the group-work area and we're not being loud. And if you so much as pause to say hi to someone, they're on you in a second.

On the other hand, the ones at my local library are always lovely and helpful, it's only even school/college librarians that are a pain.

ANYHOOs. Back to actual libraries. I do love them, but the ones around here annoy me because they never have any good books. I like old libraries, with huge bookshelves and nice wooden tables to read on xD

That is a typical stereotype library. And i like that stereotype. And my library in primary school was either absolute silence or smakced out with a broom. No joke. Some librariens can be either nice or very grumpy grouches.

I know that some people like to go to the library, and sometimes I do( Sometimes to avoid my teachers *shifty eyes*). But you have to admit that sometimes librarians are a pain.

I agree, school ones are a pain, and public ones are nice.

Well school librariens are tight wads. especially if the newbies to the job. They are trying to follow the rules exactly. Just like some of mah teachers.

Public lliraries generally are much better because there is more for the librarien to do at the front desk and it is more community based. PLus big ones like in Castle Hill and Baulkham Hills(In Aus) they have a lot of people that are there to help. They don't mind a litte bit of noise. And most of the sound is from the kiddies section were there is a play area for them to have some fun.

"Oxen. The farmer used his oxen."
"Brian,"
"What?"
"What's the plural for box?"
"Boxen! I bought two boxen of doughnuts."

I like the library too, but in some libraries there are ways tht it can be let down.
1)The Librarien is a pain in the butt and is up tight about everything.
2)The amount of resources that they have available to the community.

But there are up sides to libraries. I can find more upsides than down sides.

1)It is a quiet place to go.
2)Most libraries now have computers to have more information available
3)If the library is big enough you can just find a quiet cornor were people will walk by without noticeing you and just read.

So seeing as i have more up sides than downsides, the library is deffinatly a friend. And you can even go on the computer and go on AFC as well.

The library at my school is very good and I can't find much downsides to it except that you can only have a maximum of two books. But other than that it is okay, even my librarian is nice.
Go figure.

I love the library, and I have met some very nice librarians. I also have had a few bad experiences with librarians. Our library has two floors, the 2nd floor being the adult floor. I once went up to the second floor to get a book when I was 8, and got the "where's your mother" treatment. I then found out that at my age, I was supposed to be with my parents at all times, which had never been a problem in the kids section. I only recently summoned the courage to go back up there.
Other than that, libraries are very quiet and calming places, and I would probably rank it as one of my favorite places to be.
I'm fine, seeing as you asked.-Foaly

I love libraries, they make finding books/movies/etc. way easier. I'd hate to have to buy everything I read. My favourite is the one closest to me, where I get most of my books, since I've been using it for years and I know where everything is and how the holds work, etc. And there's the fact that they have free Internet. Most of the time when I'm on here, I'm in the library.

My school library is pretty good, too. There's been more than one librarian in the past, but all of them have been nice. My only complaint is that it's rather small and some of the books aren't in good shape, but I can't really ask for more given that it has to be small enough to, well, fit inside the school, and that given the vast amount of people using it, including a lot of younger kids, it's inevitable stuff will end up damaged.
