Much like I undersstand you do, I don't imagine death as anything but a large, empty darkness: the equivalent to being deaf, dumb, blind, and have no senses of feeling or smell. That's why I basically do what I can to avoid imagining death.
That said, I'm extremely attracted to many of the religious thoughts about an afterlife where everything is better than in this life. It feels like being able to come home from a world that's sometimes ar too large and scary. And from our, the minds', point of view, obviously the minds deserve some kind of afterlife to live happily ever after in. Unfortunately, logic seems - to me - to dictate that the mind exists to serve the body, not vice versa.
