I like that the Fowl Files had a magnetic strip.. If they hadn't, 10 year old me would never have picked up the book and I might not have ever read the books ;)... Small things, small minds XD
We all have a dark side...
That awkward moment when someone says "hi" to you, and you reply with "I'm good"... -_-

That shite moment in an argument when you realise you are wrong...

That awesome moment when the teacher asks you a question, thinking you weren't being attentive. Then you answer it right, it's like "What now! WIN!!!"

That depressing moment when your mum scribbles on the award your school gave you in congratulations for all your hard work, just to get her stupid pen to work D':
But you love me XD

*Pulling up more old topics*

I honestly don't remember if the AF books' covers had an impact on my reading them, but I guess they might have, at least in picking the book up. I'm pretty sure I first saw Artemis Fowl when I was browsing in a bookstore (back then, I would get off from college in the early afternoon, then ride Trax to meet my dad at his work, and while I was waiting for him to come down from his office, I'd always poke around the nearby Barnes and Noble), and I was looking for something I might get on audiobook at my library to listen to while I worked on art homework.

I was looking for something geared toward a somewhat younger audience (a bit like HP, Goosegirl, Pendragon, etc., I suppose, with interesting characters, apparently-simple-but-actually-complex plot, but none of the adult stuff I was sick of at the time), actiony and so on, and some of the AF covers have that. But generally with books what gets me to give it a chance is mostly in the description on the back. In this case, I remember at the time I wasn't too interested in fairies, and I was also not generally as interested in the books starring younger characters (I tended to prefer mid-teens to that of pre-teen), but the twist of having the twelve-year-old main character being a criminal mastermind drew me in.

I think the cover I saw for the first book was possibly this one: Image But I'm not entirely sure. But I do know that's definitely the kind of cover that would have drawn me in.

This is probably my favorite series of covers: Image I think these are the ones that would be most likely to get me to pick up the books and read the inside covers if I wasn't familiar with the series now. I love beautiful artwork like this that really gives you a picture of the characters, and seems to give it a sense of sophistication and realism that a series like AF deserves. (But I also like the Russian covers, because I just love that style of art.)

Although, these ones which came out for the Chinese edition fairly recently are absolutely brilliant:
books 1 and 2: ... -460954085

books 3 and 4: ... -463604019

books 5 and 6: ... -463608865

books 7 and 8: ... -465396071

And the covers all merge together to form a scroll: ... -472548257

I think if the AF series was to come with an English version featuring these covers, I might just have to buy some. X3 (I really wish I could have gotten my hands on that wallscroll at least, haha.)
“After all, absolutely no one can help but suspect a criminal, liar, and manipulator of committing crimes, lying, and manipulating. And of course, no one is more aware of that simple fact than Artemis Fowl.”

Opal sets into motion her most diabolical scheme yet, to frame Artemis and turn his closest friends against him. Only this time she has a new calculating partner who knows Artemis better than he knows himself. [An Artemis Fowl fanfiction, set after The Atlantic Complex.] ...Shameless self-advertising, guys! C;

(And if you're really bored: ... temis-Fowl AF fanart. ;J)
